Our Favourite Ferret Links

Once upon a time, somebody decided that the word ferret should be added to the computer geeks' vocabulary. Ever since then, it has been impossible to do a simple search on the word "ferret" without getting bogged down with computer stuff (try typing ferret into a search engine). Our favourite search engine is Euroferret. To make life a little bit easier, here are a few real ferret sites. I have split them into two categories, homepages of individual ferrets/organisations and a selection of pages devoted to ferrets who managed to achieve their 15 minutes of fame.

Ferret Homepages

Who can forget the day that the Budweiser lizards met up with the ferret? Here is a site that gives you screensavers and wallpaper based on the adverts.

Give your cursor a makeover - go here to get a ferret cursor for your mouse.

Yahoo! has a list of online ferret clubs (includes UK based clubs) with news pages and chat rooms where you can see what everyone's ferret have been up to.

Here are some UK ferret sites; West Wales Ferret Welfare, South East Ferret Club (Kent), The National Ferret Welfare Society (an online guide to making purse nets and the only Wellferret(!) clinic I have found), Mark and Sez's Ferret Page & Chris Lloyd's Dog and Ferret Club. Follow the progress of some hunting ferrets at Fowler's Ferrets and The Hunters Lair. There are loads of ferret links at Wessex Ferret Club but maybe the best named UK site of all is Dances with ferrets. Obviously a fan of Joss Whedon, Robert named his ferrets after characters in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I will add more as I find them.

Marie's ferrets are Swedish. I wonder if they like meatballs?

My favourite non-UK ferret site is a Canadian one called Dook-a-licious. Click on the banner below to visit them.

Treat yourself to ferret stuff from Ferrets UK. They stock ferret gifts, free wallpapers, hats, a UK calendar, greetings cards and they do ferret wine as well - oh this list is too long, just go and have a look at their site!!!

The Ferret Company (USA) also sells ferret merchandise, including calendars, T-shirts and mouse mats. Click on the banner below to visit their site.

On a serious note, here is an excellent FAQ on ferret natural history and their domestication - well worth a look. If you have decided that you just can't live without a ferret, The Unofficial Ferret Handbook has great advice on keeping pet ferrets.

If you are interested in field sports, have a look at this online magazine countrymansweekly.co.uk

Newsworthy Ferrets

I plan to keep updating this as more stories come to light. In the meantime, hope you enjoy this selection.

This is bad PR for ferrets, but it I like it - did you hear the one about the ferret who stalked pensioners at a Brighton bus stop? Not for the squeamish!!!!!

Then there are the ferrets who trained as electricians, the racing ferrets, the ferret that went in someone's trousers at a market and the ferret that won a trip to India.

Do you remember Roy Hattersley? See what he said about ferrets in his Guardian column, he needs a ferret or two shoved down his pyjamas for that - Ha! Ha! On a more topical note, politicians seem to rate ferrets alongside asylum seekers. Don't think you can take you ferret to Eurodisney on holidays, they're not allowed a passport (good job you can smuggle them down your trousers then, isn't it!)

Non-ferret links worth mentioning are the Countryside Alliance and the Scottish Countryside Alliance. The Countryside Alliance promotes the interests of rural people, including all field sports (hunting, shooting, fishing, falconry, ferreting, coursing, stalking etc), sensible wildlife management, and wider countryside concerns such as jobs, landscapes and freedoms. It represents these interests in the media, in Parliament, in schools and throughout the UK. Click on their banners below if you would like to find out more about their work.
